Daniela Stoian is back in London after visiting her home in Bucharest. She did not waste any time sharing her inside sweet spots with Sweet Travels!
Bucharest makes a great choice for a city break, being both affordable and entertaining. It has an interesting mix of old and new architecture. While wandering the streets you will see an old building on the verge of collapsing next to a brand new fancy hotel next to a regular convenience store. Then factor in the cultural influences from the West and the East. It’s quite unexpected and not what is represented in the travel brochures.
Romanians love to go out, and there are lots of places open late. When I go home, one of my favorite activities is to catch up with my friends while enjoying a sweet drink or a slice of cake. One of my closest friends helped to compile this list of our recommended places to visit if you are looking to sweeten up your day!
Alt Shift, Meringue cake with berries.
Nomad Skybar, Handmade chocolate cake with mascarpone sauce and berries.
Tucano Café, Sour Cherry Tart.
Cremeria Emilia, Siciliana ice cream.
Micul Paris, Marchiza.
Boutique du Pain, Choco Passion.
Caffeol, Hot Belgian Chocolate Madness.
Arcade Café, Oreo Hot Chocolate.
Romania’s oldies but goodies:
Covrigelul is a very popular sweet (or salty) snack in Romania. There is a huge variety (chocolate, jam, poppy or sesame seeds) and you can find them at any corner. We like it served warm, freshly baked in the morning, with coffee or tea.
Ana Pan, Savarina & Amandina.
There is no Romanian who hasn’t heard of these two sweets as they are always displayed front and center in Romanian sweet shops since the Communist times. They are rum syrup cakes, one with whip cream and one with chocolate. We also serve mini versions of the dessert (in the middle of the second row of the photo below).
On a personal note from Moira…Thank you, Daniela, for always keeping Sweet Travels in mind during your travels! We love hearing from you and hope you continue to explore, taste and share your stories with us!
