Although it was the last weekend in February, the temperature was 50 in Vermont so our original ski plans fell threw but we were excited to spend the weekend exploring the town of Middlebury. There were plenty of options for lunch but we settled down at The Lobby which was an excellent choice all around. A college town with delicious restaurants, a movie theater, a couple breweries and distillaries, plenty of walking trails, and their own snow bowl.
The corn chowder and kale salad hit the spot especially since my husband said I could “share” his fries!
Once we were energized, we walked around town stopping into several galleries and boutiques.
Never one to miss a chocolate opportunity, somehow I sniffed out Middlebury Chocolates.
Nothing like ending the day with an ice cream or “creemee” as they say at Samas Cafe.
Sunday started with a long walk along the TAM, Trail Around Middlebury. It was beautiful and a great way to start the day. We crossed the street after our walk to see what the Drop-In Brewing Company was all about. Not only is there a tasting room but the Drop-in Brewing Company is home to the American Brewers Guild (ABG), the nation’s premier brewing school for the craft brewing industry. You may have to wait a bit if you want to take the course…there is currently a two-year wait list! The staff could not have been friendlier filling us in on the various brews on tap.
Next up was a distillery. I am not a whiskey person but I wanted to check out WhistlePig. I do have to admit, I like their whiskey.
On our way home, we picked up some lunch at the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op.
