Sewanee: The University of the South
Sewanee: The University of the South is a very small private liberal arts university in Sewanee, Tennessee. There are approximately 1,800 undergraduate students and 84 graduate students who attend Sewanee. It is the only university in the United States to be owned by the dioceses of the Episcopal Church; a theological education is an essential part of the Sewanee core curriculum. Their colors are purple and gold and the school mascot is Sewanee, The University of the South Tiger.
Famous "Tiger" alumni include Anson Mount - actor (Hell on Wheels), John Jeremiah Sullivan - writer, Radney Foster - singer, Samuel Pickering - writer, and Roger Hodge - magazine editor.
