University of Maine
The University of Maine is a public research university in Orono, Maine. There are approximately 9,200 undergraduate students and 1,900 graduate students who attend the university. Across the country, there are a little under 110,000 living alumni. A fun fact about the University of Maine’s campus is that in 2003 it was actually designated an arboretum so you can just imagine how beautiful it is. Students especially love the numerous biking, running, and cross-country skiing trails throughout the campus.
Famous "Black Bear" alumni include Stephen King - author, Lawrence Bender - Academy Award-winning film producer, Montell Owens - former football player (Jacksonville Jaguars), Paul Kariya - former hockey player (St. Louis Blues), and John Tortorella - hockey coach (Columbus Blue Jackets).
Rachel is a Senior majoring in human nutrition and dietetics from Safety Harbor, Florida. She is also on the UMaine women's soccer team. One quirky fact about Rachel..."Even though I'm from Florida, my family ancestry dates back to 18th century Maine!"
